Story Behind the Bear

The year was 2008. I had just bought my first home and started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Life was good—until it wasn't. The economy took a nosedive, and my job informed me they could only offer me part-time hours. The first casualty? My BJJ training, because, you know, paying the mortgage took priority.

But here's where it gets interesting: my coach found out I was into design. He asked me to create some T-shirt designs for the gym. One of my ideas was a bear from a certain large country we’re not naming right now. I thought, "Hey, we’re kind of like bears ourselves, and bears love to grapple!" So, I designed a bear in a gi (the BJJ uniform).

The design was a hit. Soon, the gym wanted bear stickers to give to the students. No problem. We made it happen. Before long, that bear was everywhere, replacing the old 3D Training logo.

So there you have it—a financial crisis, a part-time job, and a grappling bear led to a brand new logo and a lot of sticky bear fun.

New Beginning

The year was... well, I can't exactly remember, but let's say it was sometime in the early 201...s. 3D Training scored a brand new, massive gym complete with an MMA cage. Exciting, right? To celebrate, we decided it was time to update the logo.

Previously, our logo featured a bear with some lines behind it. People thought those lines were spikes, but nope—they were shadows. For the new logo, we turned those shadows into the MMA cage netting.

So, our bear went from looking like a porcupine impersonator to a bona fide MMA superstar, and 3D Training got a fresh new look to match its awesome new space. Talk about a glow-up!

OMG IM POPULAR

One thing the so-called "specialists" said about our new logo was that it wouldn't work and couldn't be used. But guess what? The client absolutely loved it, and it ended up being used everywhere with great success.

In fact, the logo became so popular that whenever our coach went abroad to give training sessions, people asked him to bring bear-logo merch with him. Our bear was a hit wherever it went! So much for the expert opinions—turns out, everyone loves a grappling bear!
